While Schwinn often had a reputation for building heavy bikes for kids, the Paramount line had a reputation for finely crafted, relatively light road bikes. That is obviously a great price. And aside from the obvious oddities, it is endowed with an unusually long top tube for its size: That is also an unusually long top tube, given the frame size.

On her bike, it’s Campy Nuovo Record hubs/headset and derailleur, Suntour ratcheting barcons routed through the handlebars the whole way, with a Selle saddle and cinelli .

What to do when it’s wet outside — Rebuild the Hetchins Well, its maintenance to the Hetchins Part Two — The Rebuild Up to this point, Hettie had had her worn out cassette, her old bar tape and bars removed, her ergo 9sp controls taken off, and her wonderful but uncomfy Brooks saddle removed. And thus, she lived in the cottage until a certain Easter rainy weekend.

Leaving Hettie, ready for her surgery, like this Here she is, ready for a re-vamp. Secondly, he is a mechanic, and very able to adapt to most mechanical things, be them motorbike vintage or classic , car classic or computers retro or new.

But, he cannot forget his humble beginnings in Jane Whites Cycles on the Isle of Man, many moons ago Even before we started dating at the sweet age of It is to his knowledge, his experience and skills that I allowed myself to have a go at upgrading Hettie Hetchins from a 9sp to a 10sp, and to totally change her groupset, her handlebars and bar tape. It is due to this man, that the ‘rocket science’ behind the bicycle that I had been so worried scared to venture into, and that the veil of difficulty, complication and well It can be done folks, and But a bit of man power was required once in a bit.

First of all, once Hettie was pretty much naked her cassette removed, her bars taken off, her chain dismantled that the real work was to begin, it was one thing taking it all off her, and another putting it all back on. For one thing, it has to be right, and to fit and to look good on her. And because of the ‘look good on her’ demand, that I removed the new handlebars purchased.

Cinelli frames made up until that point where used used mainly for Olympic and World Championship teams. He started using some of the ideas he had created in his head during those year s of racing, when he began building frames after Word War II. Cinelli thought that frames needed to be stiffer and that the geometry was to relaxed on most of the models of that era.

He created a fork crown that had sloping shoulders and internal lugs. This allowed the blades to be shorter and created a stiffer fork. Cinelli also redesigned the seat collar, bring the seat stays in behind the lug rather that along side it. Fausto Coppi was one of the first to use these new features when he raced on a Cinelli frame in

So what, you say. Ron Kitching 12 speed My wife is quite petite so she has to be picky about getting a really small frame. So we did some quick Google searching and discovered all this about the man himself, which, combined with the good price and the size of the bike meant we bought it. As he imported the best kit, his own named bikes were always very well specified. The paint is OK, a bit scratched in places but respectable looking.

They work alright but lack the power of a twin pivot brake. The bottom bracket is new but looks wrong. It is way too wide and looks like Shimano from the spline pattern. The whole thing works but looks wrong and probably has a bad chainline as a result.

If you have not checked it out yet, Please do. The link is located in the column on the right. While taping the handlebars on the MotoBecane I had an idea. Why not just roll the tape out to the end of the roll. Then tape the end into place with a small piece of tape. Then I can do the end wrap elictrical tape where I choose, then cut off the excess with a razor blade. I think it might be easier for some “like myself” who struggle with making the final cut then taping it into place.

The tape I used was slightly adhesive Avenir So there was no need for a small piece of tape on the end to secure it while I did the end wrap. Here I am cutting off the excess tape after getting the finish electrical tape in place. All you need to do is use the tape edge as your guide. Of course you will want to measure the other side to match before applying the finish tape.

Be aware that if you score the handlebars when you trim, you run the risk of weakening the bars there. This is more likely with alloy, rather than steel bars.
