Sam has Asperger’s syndrome, a form of autism, which he feels makes dating awkward for him. Will Sam’s date with year-old Amy progress to his first ever second date? Ian, from Southend-on-Sea, is looking for the perfect partner to see the world with, but time is running out for the year-old. At the age of 15 Ian was diagnosed with Usher Syndrome, a degenerative eye condition which means he is slowly losing his eyesight. Ian has just eight per cent of his vision left and has no idea when he will lose his sight completely. Talented musician, artist and all-round creative Eddie from Falmouth in Cornwall is looking for romance. But when it comes to going on a date he can be lost for words.

Viewers were devastated as Souleyman Bah was cancelled on [Channel 4] The heartwarming The Undateables returned to Channel 4 on Monday evening following people with mental and physical disabilities find love and get out there in the dating world.
One of the singletons seeking the help of the dating agency was 18 year old Souleyman Bah, a young Paralympian suffering from a rare degenerative disease called retinitis pigmentosa.
And as a disabled person who felt that way I was far from alone. Most disabled people want and need the same things as their able-bodied peers and love, romance and sex are no exception. Many disabled people find it difficult to get into romantic relationships because we are given the very strong sense from the world around us, that we are not viable partners, that we are unattractive due to disability and that the dating game is very much one to which we are not invited.
In researching for this piece, I have been in touch with three participants on the show who all said that their personal experience of the team working on the show was a positive one and something that they are pleased to have done. Furthermore, what other minority or underrepresented group would accept such a title? Only for the disabled would a title like this even make it past the initial pitch. It is striking that while there is increasing coverage and representation of disabled people in media, it is almost always in a disability context.

I dined out on that story for weeks. It was fucking weird, but I was kind of pleased she was adding more colour to an already entertaining story. Advertisement I took that story to the pub the next night and my audience loved it. Delivering stories that had the whole table hanging off my every word was addictive. At the risk of sounding like a creepy auntie rubbing her knees with glee — no detail is TMI.

Anyone who’s ever watched The Undateables is probably a , as obsessed with it as we are, and b , fascinated by how the show is put together – which is probably why we had so many questions for Ellen, a University of Birmingham student, who appeared on Series 5 of the Channel 4 programme. The show follows a number of people who consider themselves ‘undateable’ due to challenging conditions as they attempt to find love – including Ellen’s date Pani.
He has dwarfism, and the pair went to GoApe on their first date – but what was it actually like, how did the situation come about and did Ellen enjoy it? We asked her all the important questions: Later, they rang me again and said ‘are you free on Tuesday’? It’s one of those things where you don’t really think anything will come of it.

She responds with a shrug and the year-old poet continues with the punch line: However this dating documentary-style show has a twist — the people featured all have disabilities or learning difficulties. Despite the fact the programme is evidently popular — airing its sixth season earlier this year which revisited some old faces — it has come up against some harsh critique in its time. As a liberal, open-minded individual I hold the opinion that The Undateables is indeed a positive representation and insight into the world of dating with a disability.
To begin with, a subject which may have formerly been a taboo is being explored on mainstream television in a peak time slot, so The Undateables represents a push towards battling the stigma disabled dating and relationships may have.
