The boat has an intact hardtop and the bubble windows are still very clear. The hardtop is a tangerine color as well as the trim. I knew very next to nothing about these boats as I was hauling it down the highway after buying it. But I have come to find what a unique classic these boats are! The boat is in overall good shape and I’m excited to start restoring it and getting it on the water! I’ve been restoring it with the help of my father in-law and now she’s ready to go. I finally got my 58 cj3b purchased three months ago home this past weekend. I know, I know I should be disbarred from the Willys club for waiting so long, but its a long story so don’t ask. The body is solid and straight, no cancer, very little surface rust and even has a solid tool box.

It has all it’s parts and pieces to include the original drive train and the remains of three-point hitch it had during its farm days. Only things missing are the side-view mirror and a spare tire mount.

Things that affect oil pressure are the weight of the oil used, temperature of the engine, engine rpm, clearances in the oil pump, the screen on the oil pick up, pressure relief valve, cam and crank bearing clearances. Just from the information you posted, it would seem your mechanic has made a logical call on replacing the engine or crank kit it.

It is important to mention up front that many of the Buick V8 and V6 engines are identical in many respects, particularly in the area of the distributor. Any place that I refer to the in a generic sense should be interpreted as applying to the other engines as well, unless specifically noted as otherwise. I did my work on a , but with a little extra double checking and head-scratching you should be able to do the same thing to any other engine that shares the same distributor mounting dimensions.

All you do is hook one end of a ohm (1K OHM) resistor to the tach wire, and other end of resistor to key 12v+. The tach wire is found on the RED PCM connector for vehicles and the GREEN PCM connector on vehicles.

The only downside to the early Ram Jet was the open-loop-only engine controller, the MEFI 3 multipoint electronic fuel injection, version 3. It seems that the brain of the system had some limitations.

GM Performance Parts addressed these issues around The unit is a true open-loop system. Just like your fuel-injected truck or car, the unit starts up in open loop and, after warm-up, switches to closed loop. With a closed-loop EFI system the computer constantly takes in input from several sensors, including the O2 sensor.

This kit consists of a MEFI 4 controller, a wire harness, an intake air temp sensor, and a heated oxygen sensor with mounting bung. This bung must be welded into the exhaust pipe, and the air temp sensor goes into the intake tube or manifold plenum. Placement is best done in the first few feet of the exhaust pipe after the manifold. Jeff Abbott of Painless Performance points out that the Ram Jet MEFI 4 uses a narrow-band oxygen sensor and adjusts all injectors the same regardless of which bank the sensor is placed in.

The car was complete, but there was water in the oil. It did not matter much to me – I purchased the car for next to nothing and fixing the head gasket would be a snap. I started to remove the head, and I discovered why Jaguar mechanics are such special people. I personally am comfortable working on any of the major USA car brands, since I have had my share of cars which needed fixing. The thing that made me ponder the reason why the car was sold so inexpensively was when the cylinder head refused to budge loose because of corrosion in the head studs it turns out that the studs penetrate the water jacket.

I had to use a chain hoist hooked to the head, and winching the ENTIRE car up by the head and waiting for a day, the head to eventually slid off. I had heard from numerous sources that many people have removed the original Jaguar motors and transmissions, and put in Chevy or Ford powerplants. Why would anyone turn a Jag into a hybrid monstrosity? The reasons stated were “Parts are much more inexpensive for Chevy motors than Jaguars”, “Better gas mileage”, “I can drive anywhere in the USA and if I have car problems, I can have the thing fixed right there without waiting for parts to come in”, “I am more familiar with Chevy engines than Jaguars”, etc.

I discovered that in the case of a Chevy swap, it is almost a “bolt-in” affair – one can perform a swap without any cutting or welding on the Jag body whatsoever. For instance, one can use a driveshaft from a ’70’s Nova and it is the correct length to go between a Turbo and the Jag differential, and Jaguar uses the same U-joint as Chevy, so it bolts right up. The power steering lines also bolt right up. One can put in a Camaro radiator in place of the Jag unit, without any cutting.

So, after the research, I decided to put in a Chevy and Turbo R4 overdrive automatic.
